W Reptiles are ectotherms and use heat from an external source to thermoregulate their optimal
body temperature. Most reptiles use direct radiant heat from the sun in combination with
conductive heat from sun-heated surfaces such as branches rocks or other heat-accumulating
structures. Providing such an appropriate species-related temperature gradient in the
terrarium is an important factor in a successful reptile husbandry. With the Exo Terra 300 W
electronic ON OFF thermostat you can create a well-controlled heating system that allows you
to maintain the necessary temperature conditions similar to those found in a desert or tropical
environment. The thermostat also helps prevent overheating and hypothermia on hot summer days
or cold winter nights. The electronic Triac switch keeps the temperature at the desired set
point with a much higher accuracy compared to conventional thermostats and virtually eliminates
temperature fluctuations in the terrarium. Simply connect your heating mat heating cable or
ceramic heating element to the Exo Terra ON OFF thermostat set the preferred temperature and
place the heat sensor in the desired location. The red LED heat indicator lights up when the
heating unit is on and turns off when the desired temperature is reached. The thermostat's
recessed dial prevents accidental temperature change if the unit is handled. The waterproof
remote sensor can be used safely in very humid terrariums and aquatic environments. The Exo
Terra thermostat must be set according to the animals' needs. Carefully research the Preferred
Optimal Temperature Range (POTR) for your specific reptile so that you can create the correct
temperature gradients inside the terrarium for your reptiles to thermoregulate.
