Shaun Gallagher puts forward a pluralist account of the self and a philosophical account of
psychiatric disorders as disorders of the self. He argues that what have been seen as different
selves - physical social private extended - should rather be seen as variable factors or
processes organized in a certain pattern: this pattern is the self.
