What does it mean to be a 'real man'? This study explores the depiction of male shame in the
novels of Hanif Kureishi Philip Roth and Hubert Klimko-Dobrzaniecki. Drawing on postcolonial
gender and feminist studies of shame the authors exposes the damaging nature of the denial of
male emotions and the effect it has on society.
