Are credit default swaps (CDS) weapons of mass destruction? Since the breakout of the current
financial crisis CDS are being perceived as a double-edged sword. The present study analyzes
the theorized and empirically evidenced risks and benefits of using CDS and the impact of new
regulatory requirements on the CDS market and its participants.
