hochexplosive Zeit des Kalten Krieges fielen? Dies zu erhellen hat sich eine internationale
und interdisziplinäre Forschungsgruppe zur Aufgabe gemacht. Vorgelegt werden die Ergebnisse in
diesem Studienband der auf eine Doppelperspektive abhebt. Zum einen geht der Blick auf das
Panorama von Aktivitäten die von dem Schriftsteller selbst als aufmerksamstem Beobachter des
Weltgeschehens ausgingen zum anderen auf das Spektrum der politisch relevanten Aktionen die
von außen her in Ost und West an seine so kontrovers diskutierte Person jeweils geknüpft
wurden. What was the political role Thomas Mann played in the last years of his life which
coincided with the highly explosive period of the Cold War? An international and
interdisciplinary research group has set itself the task of shedding light on this question.
The results are presented in this volume of studies which aims to provide a dual perspective
and encourage academic innovation. It looks on the panorama of activities that emanated from
the writer himself as most attentive observer of world events as well as on the spectrum of
politically relevant actions that were linked to his controversial persona from outside in East
and West.
