This work discusses the meaning of parables and how the OT notion of massal has affected the NT
understanding of parabole. The whole work is an application of the historic-critical exegetical
method to the Matthean trilogy so its main focus lies on the historical literary and cultural
backgrounds that give the parables their allegorical flavour.
