This book concerns the body and the corporality in the early medieval legal codes of Germanic
peoples (leges barbarorum) its spatial and temporal frame being Western Europe from c. 500 to
c. 800 AD. The main issue is the human body as an object of crimes against its inviolability
and the systems of compensation in force for such violent acts.
