Austrian Cooking has a great variety of dishes - a heritage of the once great Austrian Empire.
In the Austrian Provinces there are many native traditions. The people of the Provinces were
not wealthy and ate what was available in the surrounding country. So these dishes are very
simple tasty substantial and cheap. Moreover in terms of current interests they also fit
todays need for a proper healthy diet. It was completely different in bigger towns. In the town
there has always been a lively exchange of culinary ideas with other areas. With this small
book I have tried to give you a modest selection of typical Austrian dishes.
