Salome is a tragedy by Oscar Wilde based on a biblical motif. Interestingly the original
version of the play was in French an English translation was published a couple of years
later. The story tells about the attempted seduction of Jokanaan by Salome step-daughter of
Herod Antipas her dance of the seven veils and the execution of Jokanaan at Salome's
instigation and her death on Herod's orders.
