Don Mendo and beautiful Magdalena are lovers. The young woman's father knowing nothing of this
affair decides to marry his daughter to the Duke of Toro which may end up in a scandal. This
situation horrifies the girl. Don Mendo promises his beloved that he will not betray her and
will find the way out. She takes advantage of such an oath to prevent the loss of reputation in
society from being discovered.
