The correspondence collected in this volume which spans 50 years and has been completely
edited for the first time is significant with regard to the development of Strauss' operatic
aesthetics especially the genre of 'comic opera' as exemplified by Intermezzo. In addition
new insights can be gained into the preparations for the world premieres of Elektra
Rosenkavalier and the first version of Ariadne auf Naxos.
