The trail is very well marked so you can quite easily do it without maps. But it was helpful for us to plan with these books. Certainly recommended if you want to travel without using your phone all the time. We were camping and could easily charge our phones each night. So this was nice to have.The camping places are outdated in some places or newer camping places are missing. So do check online while you are planning.Note that It is hard these days to find a bag for your steer that fits this book. (No body seems to use paper maps anymore.). I could only find bags that fit phones.This described the German part of the Danube trail. Some parts are stunning (Donaueschingen - Sigmaringen). Other parts are a bit boring, lots of flat fields (sigmaringen - Günzbruck, where we stopped because of bad weather).
