Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. While Rust en Vrede has
been part of the Stellenbosch landscape for over 300 years distinguished vintner Jean
Engelbrecht truly brought the winery into the limelight. Since the 1990s Engelbrecht has been
working tirelessly to establish South African wine as a premium product on the international
market. Nothing reflects his determination better than the stunning range of wines made by Rust
en Vrede winery. Rust en Vrede is located in the Helderberg appellation a mountainous
maritime-influenced terroir that stretches all the way to False Bay. Ever since the
Engelbrechts purchased the property there has been an emphasis placed on big bold red wine.
The vineyards are primarily planted with Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Syrah in the same
proportions as this flagship red blend. A distinctive bouquet of blackcurrant cherry jam and
subtle spice emerges on the nose of this deep crimson wine. The palate follows suit with juicy
flavours of blueberry and blackberry underpinned by earthy notes of forest floor cocoa and
toffee. It has a well-rounded structure fine sprightly tannins and a wonderfully soft
mouthfeel. Further notes of leather and herbs can be found on the lingering finish. Pair this
estate red blend with a tender rack of lamb or a rich vegetable dish such as ratatouille.
