Crouch, Blake: Upgrade ist ein wahres Meisterwerk und ein absolut fesselndes psychologisches Thrillererlebnis. Die Geschichte ist unglaublich spannend und lässt dich von Anfang bis Ende in Atem halten.

Another page turner by Blake Crouch!I enjoyed it very much even though the dystopian world he describes seems pretty realistic, which is frightening.Looking forward to the next Crouch...

I love Blake Crouch‘s older books (Abandon, Wayward Pines, Dark Matter, the short story collections,…) so of course any new book of his is a pre-order for me. Unfortunately „Upgrade“ may be his most uninspired work to date. The course of action is predictable and most characters stay bland and unrelatable. So bland, in fact, that I can’t remember the main character‘s first name after finishing the book. Side chararacters like his colleagues and his family have more color than him.Humanity is living through a massive crisis and it feels like a recital of known facts plus some science talk that completely removed the emotional side of things from the center of the problem which is ironic given the subject of the book. The story just drags itself along some plot points, like a super hero centered video game with too many fetch and filler quests to make it longer. Some parts of the book really bored me.Three stars because Crouch‘s writing is impeccable as always. Three stars because you can spend an afternoon with this book without hating it. Unfortuntely not even close to five stars because you can easily put it aside and do chores around the house without thinking about it or having a desire to continue. The spark that glued me to Crouch’s other stories and made me binge-read through them is absent here.
