This book explores the relations between poetry and painting in ekphrastic poems by tracing the
development of literary ekphrasis and the evolving ekphrastic relation between painting and
poetry. The self-reflexivity of the poems is analysed after critical writings and in the light
of the latest neuroscientific discoveries.
