'The Other Economist. Max Weber's Late Work and the Fiscal Constitution of a New German
Democracy': In the midst of the Great War Max Weber began to campaign vigorously for the
centralization of parliamentary control over state finances. His profound knowledge of
'political' economics and fiscal sociology served him well in this endeavor. In 1918 19 he
condemned both new forms of exploitation and old wealth socialist revolutionaries and the
reactionary feudal powers advocating instead for a tax-based republic. His activism shaped all
of his late writings as this reinterpretation shows.
